Over the past two weeks I’ve been cautiously testing out my foot by adding in some short to medium distance runs on both trails and roads. And hallelujah they’ve all gone really well! No pain. Not a single twinge.
I was still trying to be realistic though as I still hadn’t heard back from the doctor about that x-ray they took last week to rule out any stress fractures. And with some crazy news in the past week about friends’ injuries, I wouldn’t have been surprised if mine came back positive. It’s now been over a week with no news and since she only said she’d call if there was something to report, I’m taking this no news as good news. Phew!
Yesterday and today I had appointments with my chiro and then physio and I am so happy to say that they’ve both agreed most of my strength has returned. So with so much improvement in my pain levels and things seemingly working better and moving stronger, I’ve been given the green light to go ahead and start training for real again.
Yahoo! Cleared for takeoff!
I would have been at a much longer distance by now and have completed all kinds of speed training but due to these injuries I’m nowhere near that. We did a pretty major overhaul of my training plan though and I’m so excited to complete the first workout on it tomorrow.
Obviously the revamped plan is quite different. We’re being mindful of intensity and so for now, will focus mainly on building my distance back up again. I’m still not totally sure what this will mean for some of my spring race goals but distance is really where my heart lies anyway so I’m okay holding off on speed training for a little while.
So, tomorrow you’ll find me out on some of our local urban trails, plodding along and enjoying every step. My fingers are crossed that this comeback goes smoothly so in the meantime I’m going to make it my goal to just enjoy every run to the fullest.
