Okay friends, it’s time to get serious. A couple days ago I posted about getting myself focussed on my training again. I have just over a month until BMO Vancouver Marathon and just under 2 months until Run for Water Ultra Marathon and lots of work to do between now and then!

Aside from my training and fundraising (I’m over 40% of the way to my goal!) one of the things I wanted to get serious about was eating healthier and hopefully losing a bit of weight before my big races.

I think my current weight is just fine but I think the weight I was at going into these big races last year is better. Nobody would argue that a lighter, leaner body is going to be a bit easier to drag across all those kilometres come May!

More importantly than what the scale says however, is the means by which I hope to get there. It’s no secret I love my treats and I’ve been indulging in quite a few of them lately post-LA Marathon (mmm, chips and fries).

In the next couple months I want to get back to making better choices and keeping those treats exactly what they are: treats. Only to be consumed on special occasions, not every day.

Think I can do it?

I do. And here’s how: DietBet.

Last year I participated in a social dieting game called DietBet and the rules are simple: join the game for $25, track your progress and if you lose 4% of your starting weight in 4 weeks then you split the pot with everyone else who ‘wins’. Technically, everyone wins because they’re eating better and getting healthier but personally, I found tacking a monetary incentive to the whole thing incredibly motivating and a whole lot more fun than just ‘dieting’. Who doesn’t like to win money, right?

    That sounds like fun! I have to be weighed every 3 months for my job. Even though I was certainly below our maximum allowed I was way higher then I wanted to be or have been in years! I’d like to lose 10 before my half marathon April 19!

      Yeah it always creeps up on us, doesn’t it? That’s why I enjoy doing things like this to rekindle my spirit and drive to eat better and stay on track!

    chips not so much. i do like choc…I try not to eat that…but sometimes my issue isnt snacking … it is working long hours and eating dinner too late. I need meal planning help. :-)
